ICELAND - Hot partying and cool glaciers              Added: March 2008
We spent a cool few days on Iceland. Great people who sure know how to party and spectacular scenery!

We started out by visiting the Blue lagoon. It is a geothermal spa where the waters are part of a lava formation. The water is really hot (around 40 °C/104 °F) and the water is supposedly rich in minerals and good for your skin. The visit can be done on your transfer to or from the airport (book in the arrivals hall or online). This can be convenient if you do not have much time on the island:

We also spent a day around the “Golden Circle”. It is a day trip from Reykjavik and covers among other things:
  • Þingvellir where one of the oldest surviving parliamentary institutions of the world, was founded in the year 930.
  • Gullfoss, a spectacular water fall

  • Haukadalur, a valley which contains active geysers.

Being on Iceland and nature lovers we had to take a glacier trek! We headed out to the Solheimajökull glacier for a full day of glacier walking. After being equipped with suitable equipment we headed out. It sure is a strange feeling walking on pure ice with perfect grip. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t the best as it was cloudy and rainy but the blue/gray colours of the ice were magnificient, check out the photos below:

Here are some other miscellaneous photos from our trip to Iceland:

Before going to Iceland we recommend that you rent the movie "The raven flies" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087432/) which is shot on Iceland and shows you some of the beautiful scenery (the movie is quite violent so it may not be suitable for sensitive/young viewers).
